Universiti Sains Malaysia Delegation Visits Shanghai Jiao Tong University

On the morning of September 19, Professor Li Jieqiang, Director for Academic and International Cooperation at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), led a delegation to Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) for talks on deepening the universities’ strategic partnership. Liu Weidong, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC SJTU Committee and Vice President of SJTU, attended the meeting.

On behalf of the university, Liu Weidong warmly welcomed the delegation from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). He reviewed the long-standing partnership between Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) and USM and the results achieved. He also outlined SJTU’s recent progress in international cooperation and exchange, highlighting new steps to serve national strategies, spur science-and-technology innovation, and advance international education. Liu said he hopes the two universities will build on their current foundation, focus on frontier science and talent development, and broaden collaboration in both scope and depth. Together, they can contribute to regional development and help address global challenges.

Professor Li Jieqiang praised SJTU’s strong record in research, talent development, and international collaboration. He outlined USM’s recent progress, highlighting key areas: sustainable technologies, innovation and startup incubation, and its internationalization strategy. Li noted that USM highly values its partnership with SJTU. He looks forward to deeper, practical cooperation in student and faculty exchanges, joint research, and technology transfer and commercialization.

 

Liu Ning is Vice Dean of SJTU’s Research Institute, Director of the Grand neoBay Special Office, and General Manager of Grand neoBay Science and Technology Development Co., Ltd. He gave a detailed briefing on the Grand neoBay Sci-Tech Innovation Source Functional Zone. He covered its planning and construction progress, core positioning, and the results of building an ecosystem for research commercialization. Professor Srimala A/p Sreekantan (Profesor Ir. Dr.), Director of USM’s Innovation and Consultation Centre, shared USM’s experience and models in innovation incubation and technical consulting. The two sides held in-depth discussions on creating a cross-border platform for technology transfer and cooperation.

Vice Deans Bao Hua (Puyuan Institute of Future Technology), Qu Qian (Antai College of Economics and Management), and Zheng Gang (SJTU Global College) each reported on their colleges. They discussed educational innovation, talent development, and related topics.

In the afternoon, the delegation visited the Grand neoBay Sci-Tech Innovation Source Functional Zone. They learned about the One-Kilometer Incubator and visited SJTU faculty spin-off companies. The two sides held in-depth discussions on advancing research commercialization and incubation services for sci-tech enterprises.

Representatives from SJTU’s Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, the Antai College of Economics and Management, SJTU Global College, and the Puyuan Institute of Future Technology attended. The Grand neoBay Special Office and Grand neoBay Development Co., Ltd. were also present.
